Have any questions about roofing before your next project? We have answers.
If you’re in need of roof repair or replacement, it makes sense to have questions. Unless you’re an expert roofer yourself, there are likely parts of the process that are foreign to you. Even if you are well-versed in roofing, you might have questions about our process at Montgomery Winslow. Fortunately, we’re happy to help answer any questions you might have. Here are some of the questions we hear most frequently:
How Can I Tell When My Roof Needs to Be Replaced?
There are a few ways to tell. If you have a shingle or tile roof, you might notice missing tiles or curling tiles, or you might see a dark discolored spot. Flat roofs and metal roofs may be less obvious, but you can check on the health of your roof from the inside as well. Go to your attic and look up. See any cracks of light peeking through? Notice any issues of mold or water damage? These are all signs it might be time to replace your roof.
How Do I Know a Roofing Contractor Is Legitimate?
No one wants to accidentally hire a fraud. Start by looking for someone local and already established in your area. It’s harder for a company that’s already made a name for themselves to hide fraudulent practices. You can also look up online reviews or check their Better Business Bureau rating to get an idea of their credibility. Ask for referrals. If they offer referrals, and those referrals seem legitimate, it will go a long way towards your confidence in the company.
How Long Will My Replacement Roof Last?
This depends on the material you use for your roof, as well as other factors like the weather and regular maintenance on your roof. Asphalt shingle roofs are the most affordable option, but they typically last about 20 years. Metal roofs, on the other hand, are more expensive but likely to last as long as you have the house and beyond. We offer a variety of roofing materials at Montgomery Winslow, as well as roof inspections and roof repair to ensure that your roof lasts for decades in good shape. We offer a 10-year warranty on roof replacements and a 1-year warranty on repairs.
How Much Will the Roof Cost?
Again, this depends on the materials as well as the size of your roof. Some roofing materials will be more expensive, but they may save you more money in long-term costs because they’ll need less maintenance and last for longer. A larger roof will require more labor and materials, and thus will have a higher cost. It’s for this reason that we always come by to see the roof for ourselves before we give you an estimate on the cost of the work. We realize that in order to get an accurate number, we need to understand every angle of the roofing project.
What Kind of Roof Is the Best Choice?
This depends on the homeowner and the home. Not all homes are built for a flat roof, but for some it might be a perfect match. A metal roof might be the wrong choice for your aesthetic preferences, or it may give you all the energy efficiency you want. Talk to your contractor about the best option for your home based on your priorities.
